The first baby of 2012 in Sumter County was born at 1:35 pm at the new Phoebe Sumter Medical Center.
Jaycee Claire Felker was welcomed into the world by her parents Jacob Felker and Haley Lynn on the first day of 2012. She weighed in at 6 pounds and 9 ounces and was 19 inches long. Dr. Buddy Marshall was the attending physician.
"My due date was January 15th, so I really came in just to get checked," said mother Haley Lynn. "My family kept telling me I would have the New Year's baby, but I was really surprised that it happened."
Both mother and father were impressed with the new facility and the people that work there.
"It is very exciting to have the first baby born in 2012, and the nurses and entire staff have been very nice," said Jacob Felker, father of the newborn. "The hospital is really nice and everyone has been nice to us as well."
